Classify mainstream toggle switch types by pole
Toggle switches have diverse classifications, and selecting the correct type is the key to stable circuit operation. The core classification standards are pole number, throw number and gear position, which determine the switch’s control capability and application range.
The most common types include SPST, SPDT, DPST and DPDT toggle switches. SPST is single-pole single-throw, only responsible for simple single-circuit on and off. SPDT is single-pole double-throw, which can switch between two different circuits. DPST and DPDT support dual-circuit synchronous control, suitable for complex power supply and load switching.
In addition, toggle switches can be divided into 2-position and 3-position types. The 2-position design is fixed ON/OFF control, while the 3-position mode adds a neutral middle gear for multi-mode adjustment.
For ordinary single-device power control, choose SPST toggle switches. For circuit switching and function switching, SPDT or DPDT models are more suitable. Reasonable matching effectively avoids circuit short circuit and control failure.
