Common Pin Configurations of AV Sockets, 3Pin 5Pin 6Pin Function Explained

Pin definition and circuit matching rules for multi-pin audio video sockets

Audio and video sockets have diverse pin configurations, mainly including 3-pin, 5-pin and 6-pin models. Different pin quantities correspond to different signal definitions, supporting mono audio, stereo sound and integrated audio-video transmission functions.
3-pin audio sockets are the most basic and common type. They support standard stereo signal transmission, including left channel, right channel and ground wire. Widely used in ordinary headphone jacks, small speakers and basic audio output devices, 3-pin sockets meet daily stereo listening needs.
5-pin and 6-pin multi-pin sockets expand functional circuits on the basis of basic audio channels. They support microphone input + audio output integration, dual-channel switching and video signal synchronization transmission. These multi-pin designs are commonly applied in intelligent audio devices, vehicle multimedia systems and composite AV equipment.
Correct pin matching avoids short circuit, no sound or signal distortion. Electronic engineers must confirm pin definition before PCB layout to ensure normal audio and video signal interaction.
