Classification of Rotary Switch, Poles, Positions and Reset Types

Standard classification methods of rotary switch based on poles, positions and contact reset design

Rotary switch can be categorized from multiple dimensions including pole quantity, operating positions and reset mode, just like toggle switch classification rules. Correct classification helps buyers quickly match rotary switch with circuit requirements and avoid wrong selection.

By pole configuration, rotary switch has single-pole, double-pole and multi-pole types. Single-pole rotary switch controls one circuit loop, while double-pole versions switch two independent circuits at the same time for safety isolation of live and neutral wires. Multi-pole rotary switch handles complex equipment mode selection for industrial control systems.

By operating positions, rotary switch covers 2-position, 3-position and multi-position selector models. Common 3-position type supports ON-OFF-ON function for forward-stop-reverse motor control. Multi-position rotary switch is widely used for voltage range selection on test instruments. Based on reset function, rotary switch includes self-locking and momentary self-reset variants. Self-locking type stays in selected position after rotation, and self-reset models return automatically once released for temporary signal triggering.

Different classifications decide wiring layout and panel application. Confirm pole number, position quantity and reset mode before purchasing rotary switch to guarantee stable circuit switching performance.
