Daily cleaning, inspection and storage tips to prolong rotary switch working lifespan
Rotary switch is precision electromechanical hardware. Simple and regular maintenance protects contact surfaces and internal spring mechanism, extending service life and lowering component replacement cost for manufacturers.
Cut off power supply before maintenance work. Remove dust, oil and metal debris accumulated around rotary switch knob and terminals. Contaminants increase contact resistance and cause unstable switching. Do not use strong corrosive solvent to clean internal contacts, which may erode plating layers and plastic housing.
Inspect knob tightness and detent feedback periodically. If rotation becomes loose or there is no clear clicking feeling, check internal detent parts and mounting nuts. Avoid over-tightening the panel nut, which may crack the plastic base. Keep spare rotary switches stored in dry box to prevent oxidation of terminals and contacts.
Do not operate rotary switch under overload state. Excessive current creates electric arcs and burns contacts rapidly. Proper maintenance preserves good conductivity and stable positioning performance, making rotary switch maintain consistent multi-position circuit control for years of operation.
